General description
Native, platelet membrane glycoprotein IIbIIIaA from human platelets. A platelet integrin that binds fibrinogen via the recognition sequence Arg-Gly-Asp-Ser. Acts as a receptor for such adhesive ligands as fibrinogen, fibronectin and von Willebrand factor during platelet stimulation. Glycoproteins IIb and IIIa constitute the fibrinogen receptor and are required for platelet aggregation. Glycoprotein IIb consists of two disulfide-linked subunits, GPIIbα and GPIIbβ, whereas GPIIIa has only one polypeptide chain.
